The Public Works Department consists of the Engineering Division, Public Services Division and the Utility Division.  The Department has approximately 110 employees dedicated to providing our customers with exceptional services in areas such as engineering, geographic information, street maintenance, storm water drainage, water service, sanitary sewer service, refuse collection and transit services.  The Department also provides fleet maintenance for city vehicles and equipment and is responsible for operation of the city fuel depot.

  


Bill Sorah is a native of Bristol, Tennessee.  He has 30 years of government experience spanning both cities of Bristol, Tennessee and Bristol, Virginia.  He is a 1976 graduate of Bellehaven College with a Bachelors of Arts degree and a 1980 graduate of East Tennessee State University with a Master of city management.  He is a member of the International City Managers Association, American Public Works Association, American Water Works Association, and the Water Environment Federation.  Bill and his wife, Karen, have a son and two daughters.   Bill is also an NCAA Division 1-A football official.  His officiating career includes the 2004 Peach Bowl and the 2005 Alamo Bowl.
