Fire Department

The Bristol Tennessee Fire Department is a group of over 50 progressive, highly trained personnel who provide fire and emergency services to the citizens and visitors of Bristol, Tennessee.  Our roster of employees includes a Fire Chief, an Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal, an Assistant Chief/Operations and Training, three shift Battalion Chiefs, two Lieutenants per shift, two Sergeants per shift and firefighters, senior firefighters and firefighter/paramedics.  All new hire employees are required to attend a thirteen week training program at the Northeast Tennesse Regional Fire Academy to become certified as a firefighter in the state of Tennessee.  All employees are certified to the level of Emergency Medical Technician or higher, with 17 being certified as National Registry Tennessee State Paramedics.

The majority of the department is trained to the level of Haz-Mat Technician and our hopes are to have 100% certified to this level.

Our fleet of emergency response vehicles includes three front line pumpers, one 100' aerial platform, one 55' Skyboom, one mini-pumper and two advanced life support ambulances, all operating out of four fire stations.

Twice a year, the fire department more than doubles its duties due to Nascar Racing at Bristol Motor Speedway.  Not only do we have personnel who work inside the track on tool trucks and pit fire crews, we also supply extra personnel outside the track to cover fire and emergency medical responses to the extra population around the track.  All fire department personnel have been trained by Nascar in Vehicle Extrication and care for the drivers should the need arise.

We also provide personnel to assist in various events held by the city's Public Venue Department, including concerts and downtown events.

Each year, the fire department hosts an open house to the public on the Saturday following fire prevention week.  During this week, the fire department will hold classes on fire prevention at the invitation of the schools in the community, as well as conduct fire station tours for school children.

Bristol Tennessee Fire Department has an Insurance Services Office (ISO) Public Protection Classification (PPC) rating of 3.
