Frequently Asked Questions Can I burn trash/lumber/brush inside the city limits? Yes, but only if you have a burn permit issued by the fire department. To obtain a burn permit, you must come to the main fire station in person and see our secretary, Bunny, who will issue the burn permit. Once you have a burn permit, you must call central dispatch before and after you burn. This will help in aideing the fire department if we receive a call of smoke in an area, as well as help you to know if there is a burn ban in place.

I have had an incident where I have found my child playing with matches and/or lighters. Is there anything the fire department can do to help me teach my child the importance of not playing with fire? Absolutely! The fire department has a juvenile firesetting program called FireWise Kids. This program is designed to teach the importance of fire safety to juveniles. It is a free program offered to all families. Your child can be introduced to the program in several different ways; they may be required by the fire department to attend this program if a fire was responded to and determined that it was set by a juvenile; parents can contact the fire department and request that their child be placed into the program if the parents feel a need; or in appropriate circumstances, the juvenile court system may place a juvenile into the program. If you would like any further information on this program, please contact Firefighter/Paramedic Joy Autin at 423-989-5701. |
